Any options locally for bulk tokens? What to get?

Postby nagamitsu » Wed Jul 19, 2017 3:40 pm

All but technically two of my arcade machines, require quarters to coin up. Pain to add credits when guests are over, as I'd have to always be around with keys to open doors to coin up etc. No, I don't want to put in remote coin buttons either.

I'd actually like all the machines to require quarters, so games that only have working attract mode when not in free play work that way. Anyways, had thought of keeping a bucket/dispenser of quarters, but I know darn well those are going to disappear. I already seem low on the ones I did have around. Looking to get a mass quantity of tokens, but ones that would go through the mechs and be seen as a quarter? (weight? size?) I don't want to change out all the mechs either.

Any suggestions?

Tim

Well, for those types of non-freeplay games I added an extra credit switch. For a couple games, pressing the right quarter refund button actually gives a credit.

This is what I did for Zeke's Peak, on/before the start button:

... but for tokens, ask Thunderstorm.

On games that don't have a freeplay setting on the PCB, I just wire the 2P start button to the coin mech (nobody plays 2P on most classic vids anyways since it alternates turns).

Thanks guys, as mentioned, preference is that I want people to add quarters/tokens, as it is obvious and already in place. (than to explain/show everyone where buttons are)

Will check out Playdium for tokens then, $200 in grand scheme of things is still not bad, if I luck upon some extra spending $ :) Would cost me $200 to get 800 actual quarters.

Won't you also need to replace all your coin mechs?

That's what I was wondering though, whether there are tokens same size and weight as quarters, that the existing mechs would work with.

Nope....but we'd occasionally get lucky as kids and find a slug that would work from the scrap pile behind the Bothwell steel factory.

I'll "lose" $20 in quarters over time before I spend hundreds on tokens alone...

Ok, maybe I should just take a trip to the bank then, get a few rolls of quarters from them. :)
