Amazing arcade documentary

Postby jasonec » Thu Apr 03, 2014 11:15 pm

I just finished watching this tonight: http://www.100yenfilm.com/
The title is somewhat misleading, as it isn't just about Japanese arcade culture - it's more about arcade culture in general (both Japan and North America), and it picks apart the features of it in great detail with some fantastic interviews.
Plus, they talk about exactly why arcade culture is still alive in Japan and why it died in North America (from many different angles).
Definitely a highly recommended documentary, and very very well done!

@ FiftyQuid

I found this on YouTube, was trying out the Chromecast.
I was going to post about the subtitles, so thank you for sharing.
Perhaps I'll just watch again from the start.

Yeah - 90% of the best lines in this documentary are in Japanese. Subtitles are mandatory ;-)

This video was just cool. I wish a little of that Japanese gaming culture would rub off on North America. Not so much that I'm blowing my entire pay cheque at the arcade, but a little more would be nice. :)
