P4 PC's configured with MAME + MaLa + FIFJr + console emulat

Postby mike boss » Fri Nov 29, 2013 11:00 am

Buddy of mine got me 5 PC's he's dropping off today, one of which I know is dual core (and need for FIFJr) the others P4 for sure.

I don't need 5 PC's and I'm sure my wife will flip once she see's these.

I'm thinking (depending on specs, specs unknown as I don't yet have them) that I could fill these up with MAME, Mala, emulators, etc and sell them.

Anyone think that an interest would exist in such a thing ?
What the value would be ?

P4s themselves aren't worth much because everyone today can usually find some friend or relative that will give one away for free.
But the effort put into getting to running MAME with a nice front end is worth $$. People would probably pay $50-100 for them since they wouldn't have to do it themselves if they already had a cabinet and Ultimarc 2-pac (or equivalent) or X-arcade or something.

Just ignore any fake Namco troll emails if you post on Kijiji ;-)

I figured the P4 PC itself aint worth much $20-50 on Kijiji.
But I figured if I can perhaps do one PC, then clone the hard drive and just move EVERYTHING over easily it could be worth it.

Do everything so it would be configured and work with your typical iPac and people would be good to go.

Even using a USB joystick all should be fine.

If I got $50-75 I'd be happy.

Then prepare to be happy and pm me with details when the project has been completed & tested.

Will do. I pick them up tonight and with the baby time is limited, but I will complete them.

I'm hoping to set them up in such a way where I can partition the drives. Putting the operating system on one part, everything else another.

Then perhaps over my network I could move the contents of "X" drive over easily.

Picked these up on Saturday....but.............

I was a lil under the weather and promised the wife we would decorate the house (with our X-Mass stuff). So I only took a look @ the one Dual Core machine. Hard drive had been pulled out.

The other 4 machines are P4's, but I am yet to look at them. I suspect the HD's could be pulled out also. If so they will go in the trash.

I'll keep everyone posted. Should this work out and the machines contain the HD's, all 4 are spoken for.

If you are going to scrap em let me know. I'd throw some trade fodder your way for some parts out of them.

Kids are a ton of work!
I still have not had the time to get outside, clean these, and take a look.
Worst case I'll get to it on the weekend and post the results.
HOPING they have HDD's !

I've got a bunch of hard drives (5-10 probably, all working) from machines I've scrapped over the past few years.
You can have them if you want to pick them up....
