That Google groups post is from 2011. The market for luxuries disappeared with the crash of Fall 2008 and was still in the process of recovering in 2011. We're not even really fully recovered now (unless you're a 1%) and I think people still are cautious and another bubble is about to burst, adding...

I've always had great luck with Sony hard drive based models, storage is really your preference.

Look for models with vibration and wind reduction, the HDRXR260V can be had for around your budget.

I would recommend a ThinkPad but with the price point, I would recommend a used or off leased version. They're very durable laptop and will last for a long time if you take care of it well. Thanks for being a dick stef, you've been away for awhile, so i forgot what it was like. There's no activation fee, and actually the ports can go to 100Meg, they just have it at 25 so there's lots of room for future growth, or the fibe tv's so there wont be any disruptions... And as for living besi...
