Re: Using a laptop in a MAME build..anyone do this ?

I wouldn't worry too much about heat unless your laptop or power brick run very hot. The monitor will probably kick out more heat than the laptop. A few years back I used an old laptop as a TiVo server, so it was on 7/24. No problems, in fact the battery meant it wasn't affected by those power glitc...

Re: ok what is going on here? Kijji arcade sales

The floor in the main photo almost makes me think it's a render rather than a real photo.

Re: Never really went to arcades as a kid.?.. post here!

I spent more time in arcades in 80s downtown Calgary than my parents knew about, does that count?

Re: Who falls into this category?

That used to be me. These days I'm getting better at not starting projects (or at least not spending $$) if I don't think I will be able to complete them.

MAME ROM sets

Anyone in the GTA have a recent ROM set on DVD they'd let me borrow & copy? The ones I have are pretty old (0.36, 0.84/0.85 & 0.97)

Saw that one the other night, and couldn't help thinking "You're wrecking the sideart!".

Not the worst MAME cabinet, but certainly ranks high on the Meh scale.

Level creators wanted for iOS game

The iOS game I have been working on, Slide Tilt Roll (http://slidetiltroll.walkerville123.ca) is nearly complete. But before I put the game on the App Store, I need some levels. Which means I need people to create levels. Interested? You need an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 9 or later (con...

Re: Coach is now targeting the husbands who get dragged to the mall.....

Anyone that shops at coach is brain damaged...when they can give their employees an 80% discount, you're getting robbed blind shopping there. Actually, retail markups of 100 - 200% is quite common. This helps to cover not just the normal overhead costs (people and space) but also the costs of unsol...

Re: Anyone ever find cabs on the side of the road?

Yep, back in 2004 a post on arcadecontrols.com mentioned an Asteroids cab sitting on the curb. What I found was a Tempest cabinet with control panel (including spinner and volcano buttons) and boards, but no monitor or marquee. It's still sitting in my basement waiting for me to find my round tuit a...

Re: Really Mini Cabinet

What do the guts look like? In particular how is the screen connected?

I'm wondering whether it would be possible to connect the screen (and controls) to an RPi and then be able to play some "real" arcade games.

Can you be more specific? Is the best/easiest/cheapest way to use a tubular lock bit (and if so, where to get one) - or will a "normal" bit suffice? Any other recommendations?

advice on JVL Conquest

My BiL scored a JVL Conquest for $5 at a garage sale. It boots and runs the iTouch4 software. But of course it's missing the keys. Q1 - best / cheapest way to remove & replace the lock Q2 - the tint is off (red seem dark) - can this be tweaked by a fat fingered noob? Q3 - any possible upgrades? ...

Without the (color vector) monitor it's basically only good for being parted out or MAME'd. (I managed to squeeze a 21" CRT monitor in mine.)

The article says he sets the machines up on free play. So the renters aren't hoping the games will be earning $$. And I will agree with everyone that delivery costs will eat most of the $75, although maybe he's hoping people will keep the games for more than a month. And even the party rental guys m...
