Juno First - Arcade or MAME

Postby RayB » Sat May 28, 2005 3:29 am

Factory default settings

I combined the category of Arcade and MAME together, because the arcade game is just too rare.

PLAYING TIPS:
- as well as left/right movement, you can fly forward and backwards (push up or down)

- You should only use the fly up and backward as a means to control where the enemies are... you don't want to continuously move forward!

- Shoot aliens, and use hyperspace when you get caught in a tight spot and are about to get killed. The hyperspace gets replenished every wave, so use it!

- If you fly backwards, you can force enemies into the "top" where they can't shoot you. But fly backwards too long and eventually you'll "wrap around" into where all the enemies are!

- Flying backwards is a great way to avoid and shoot the "seeker" bullets.

- Shoot the planet and then pick up the astronaut to trigger the bonus mode. All enemies stop shooting and are worth extra points when in this mode.

- If you hold off on shooting enemies until you get the astronaut, you'll score higher points per wave by shooting them all during the bonus mode.

- Don't die :D

Trivia: This game was Konami's answer to "Defender".

1,062,000

Achieved this in my teens on a machine that was in a corner store.
The game recorded my score as 62,000 though, because the score rolls over at 1 million.

first try...

I never played this one before....very cool. I will be able to get higher as it took me the first 10,000 points before I realized that I could push up to fly ahead.......obviously this knowledge didn't really help my game much....

I just tried again 22220....now I realized that you can go backwards and there is a hyperspace button. I'm thinking if I can pick up one of those little guys without accidently shooting him that should be worth some nice points! fun game...I can see this one becoming very addictive...

This game must have been the ultimate quarter eater...I had to play about twenty - 30 second games to finally have a 1/2 decent game to get this score......crazy....but fun...I'm playing on the keyboard so maybe later I'll try it with the hotrod.....

done on MAME, first try at this one, seems like some serious dedication would be required to get near your score RayB!

Gak. First try was 2260, until I read the tips. They help a lot. Neat game. Maybe I'll give it a try later again.

Got up to 10800 but still not very good at it.... :P

Never played this game before today. Kind of a neat mix between Defender and Galaga. This was my first attempt on my mame machine.

Juno First on my 48-in-1 jamma board with these factory settings I scored 131, 760.

Would one of these jamma boards qualify as MAME? Because, they're not actual emulators, are they?
