Sorting Out ROMS

Postby mike boss » Fri Feb 17, 2017 8:04 pm

So I'm working on a few things right now.
My Raspberry Pi project and getting my Retron5 SD card stacked!
I had these US ROM sets that work on the Pi, but when converted (as required) to PATCH files for the Retron don't work.
Which sucks! The sets are refined and have the complete US ROM sets.
I'm going to try to convert them again and try.... but should that not work I have other sets.

Problem is with the other sets they have SOOOO many versions of the same game.
I want to extract the US ones, (U) [!].nes

Can I search the folder to list the results that feature "(U) [!].nes"
I was looking online, but the one way I read did not work.

Any tips, tricks ?

Do yourself a favor, stop using Good Tools...their only purpose is to document EVERY dump, and are no longer even accurate for that matter.

CLRMAMEPRO and dats from No Intro's Dat-o-Matic. Little bit of a learning curve, but you can use Parent/Clone dats for consoles and filter by region and do "1 game 1 Region" which leaves you with the newest revision rom only.

^ This. It baffles me why people bother distributing romsets with all sorts of nonsense hacks, bad dumps, etc.

CLRMAMEPRO scans your roms against a verified list of good dumps, even cross-referencing the checksum to ensure it is the right file. It will also rename your ROMs in a consistent way. Here is an informative reddit post that describes how to use the software (which is less than intuitive): https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/4ckiw2/how_do_you_name_your_roms/d1jfkc4/

Thanks.
I'll give it a read.

I'd like to attempt to sort out these sets to pull (or list) only the versions I want to see.
I wonder would ROMlister do such a thing ?

In the event that I did something wrong (or stupid), I'm trying AGAIN to covert my US ROM sets.
Hoping that these when converted to "translation patches" will work.
These sets are what I use on my RaspberryPi. Simple, refined, clean.... yet not working for the Retron.
I have NO CLUE why ! :anyone:

Could be bad dumps, could be you need certain options when patching...I don't know, but from what I've googled you need to select "Patch expects header" for some systems, maybe it needs to be enabled or disabled for NES but I can't say for sure with a GoodNES set. No Intro? There is no header, it's contained in a separate database header file.

Going to try messing around with the NO-INTRO stuff.
I got these CYLUM sets that I'm also going to try.
Fingers crossed. I just want this card done and crossed off the list.

I got these Cylum sets the other day.
So I converted the NES files to the required IPS patch files.
I only tested one game...but it worked !
So now I'm getting all my sets ready to test in the Retron.
These sets are good, they are well organized!
