Nintendo Discontinues NES Classic

Postby jacksona2 » Sat Apr 15, 2017 10:52 am

I don't get why they would do this. I guess they want to focus on the switch. Those things are going to get stupid expensive again. I guess ill just have to get one of those powerpaks or everdrives. Any one here tried one of the flash or multicart for the NES or SNES?

I'm still scratching my head as to why this was even a thing...it's nothing more than an android based emulator in a shell, yeah it's licensed by Nintendo but it's still NOT an NES no matter how many times I've heard that it is chirped.

I'm convinced Nintendo are pissed that people can hack it and add games. They are so protective of their IP that they would rather shoot themselves in the foot. It will either re-appear with the hack loopholes patched up, or ... that's it.

Has anyone successfully dumped the software from a nes classic?

The ROMs are all dumped of course (long ago, for use in emulators), but the menu system? I don't think anyone will dump that....

Any product made by Nintendo has a following, I love my mini and have it flashed with several systems. I also have a raspberry Pi setup and the nes mini is just way more polished looking. Also, having a complete system with the mini is cheaper in the end after you buy everything for a Pi.

To each their own I guess.

I hesitated to end my previous post with "or they'll be releasing a SNES mini." I should have!

I've never used one, so I can't speak to the quality of they but they just looked much more polished than anything you could build yourself. I also liked the idea of using an officially made NES controller. No other controller on the market seems like it's quite like the original in terms of quality and feel.

Not surprised about the SNES.....
I'll move the topic to Anything Games Goes and keep a link to it here.

This may be a little late, but for anyone looking for a player 2 controller for the NES classic, I was at 'Best Buy' in Oakville yesterday and saw Insignia made a few, they are $19 each, and more or less look like the NES controllers. Heres the listing on the site.
