West 49 in Pickering Town Center

Postby mike boss » Sun Feb 28, 2016 12:14 am

Not sure if anyone here is into skateboarding, or just appreciates the artwork on decks.
I was @ the West 49 in PTC today and they have some nice desk for $20.
I picked up two Element decks to hang on my sons wall in his bedroom.
I would have got more but my bosses (Wife and daughter) wanted to go.

Anyway I thought I would pass it along because I've always thought skateboard decks make great wall art and for $20....cant go wrong.

WOW!
He commissioned a custom deck ? Super cool.

Years and years ago I went to a graffiti expo in Pickering. The event was called "The Golden Can."
The artists competed for a $200 prize.
The event was cool, but unorganized if anything. However it went well.
I asked the guys if I could co-promote the next years event.

I had a source for blank skate decks, and wanted to have the artists complete the work on canvas.
I would have paid for the decks, canvases, and put up the cash prize.
Catch was I'd keep all the art, selling what I did not want.
Really all I needed was the promoters for access to the artists.

I saw so many ways to make money at the event, the guys didn't even sell water, pop, or snacks.
Even selling paint. As I said a general lack of planning I guess.
In the end one of the guys was against an "outsider" lending a hand and a 2nd event did not take place.

Would have been cool...........sorry to rant.

I watched a cool documentary talking about the art on skateboards.
How it came to be, how it evolved.
I appreciate art of all kinds, on all surfaces, skate decks included.

I think they look bad ass on a wall.
