Solar Fox Problem

Postby erdna77 » Thu Sep 02, 2004 11:13 am

I have a Solar Fox pcb I need to test. I'm pretty sure I can put it in Tron to check
it. Does anyone know for sure?

If the PCB is OK, it must be the old linear power supply.

It is considered the same conversion class on KLOV, but that doesnt mean that you can swap the boards sometimes. Double check the pinouts
on both schematics, that will tell you

Do you have a dead cabinet? If so, are you getting power anywhere else (neck tube, marquee etc..)?

I
just tested my Bally MCR linear power supply. Very easy with a multimeter and a few aligator clips.

I'm getting a white garbage mess on the screen. I've only spent about 20 minutes on it so far, I checked the monitor -it is
OK.

I've heard somthing about a purple wire on the power supply that can give garbage on the screen, but I don't know the details.

I just went through this on my Tron... Is your screen half black, half white? If so, then the purple
reset wire can be causing this. It can also be caused if you 5v/12v strays too far.

Also, check your battery ... if it is original it is most likely
dead and corroding, that can cause issues.

I can give you an exact pintout if you want to try and cut the reset switch but check your voltages and
battery first. Do you know where the test points are for the voltage?

My screen is white
and flickery. I don't have the pinouts or anything. I you want to send them, that would be great!

I can sujest maybe clean your contacts on the pin out.
Look for any capitors that are maybe broken.
Also look at your rom chips if
they have a lens in the middle and have nothing covering them could be they got erased.
All you need to erase those eproms is UV and it
gone.

Of course... I have repaired many games.

I'm really looking for specific information on
MCR type midway games from anyone who has experience with them. Hopefully, someone else out there has seen a similar failure and can save me some time.

Sorry, I don't have the pinouts for Solar Fox.

But if you want to test your voltage, and it uses the same power supply as
Tron, you can do the following:

Disconnect the power on the PCB at J3 & J4 (at least on Tron). Just so you can keep the PCB(power load) out of the
picture for testing.

For +5v, find C106 and put the negative lead of you mm on the negative side. The hook up the positive lead to the positive side
of C106. You can adjust it up and down by using the pot at VR102.

For +12v, keep your negative lead on the negative side of C106 and place the
positive lead of your mm on the positive side of C102. You can adjust the 12v by the pot at VR101.

You might want to adjust them so they are a little
above +5 and +12 because when you plug back in the PCB, it will lower the power load.

As for the purple reset, (from memory ... double check) it is
located on the power supply board on the J4 molex at pin location 15. I tested the voltages before I cut mine. Cutting it fixed my issue. Your results may
vary.

Hmmm... have you checked the 5 & 12 v???? Did you plug it into you Tron? As you
know MCR's can be a bitch.
