Hyperspin guru needed

Postby trueno92 » Tue Jan 24, 2017 8:16 am

got my setup all running but I have an odd issue when exiting MAME.

I tried launching it with and without hyperlaunch, same issue.

My windows display mode is portrait, and when mame runs, it automatically seems to resize the display mode for vert games to run on all the screen, or if its a horozontal, it draws the image perfectly centered on the middle of the portrait screen. That behaviour is correct.

The problem is when I exit mame, using a button combo, it seems to hang on a black screen between mame exit and hyperspin regaining focus. The blackscreen has an inconsistent delay that seems to be related to how long mame was running for. If mame just launched, no prob it can get back to hyperspin instantly, but if I play for 15 mins or so, getting back to hyperspin takes up to 5 mins.....

When it does return everything seems fine even launching another rom but I can't sort this one out...

What version of Hyperspin are you on? Are you using the official mame? What version? Any other programs running beside, like joy2key etc?

Ran it through with and without hyperlaunch from the hyperhq config.

Same issue!

Running instalsheller to make hyperspin my shell, so maybe its waiting on a task bar or something?

All that'd running in the background is xpadder. But I also tried it without xpadder... same deal.

Thats an odd issue, what type of video card? How many overlays do you have enabled in hyperspin? Try disabling all overlays for optimal graphics performance and see if it occurs. I find sometimes when you have game previews enabled it can slow down considerably.

How much memory in the system? Enough for everything your running to stay in memory? Just wondering if it's swapping out to disk due to lack of memory and causing delays. Not saying this is the solution, just something to consider, considering all the images / video etc from Hyperspin.

It's windows 7. Previews and stuff load good, fast etc. I tried to disable smoothening and changing the priority from med to high.

Same thing. I just wait it out.

Alt tab, crtl shift esc and crtl alt del all don't work.

But when the system comes back, everything works as per normal.

It's a pentium d 3.4gig with 6 gig of ram. 240gig ssd

Runs pinball fx2 no issues.

Really appreciate the help, I googled this to the end of the internet and like only 2 threads mention this and both were left unsolved!!!

This was a very common issue a few versions ago with Hyperspin losing focus. That's why I asked what version you were on. You never answered. Make sure you are on the latest update.

There are many threads about Hyperspin losing focus. Unless I misunderstood your problem.

Took a look at the logs.

The only standout I saw was hyperlaunch not finding path and then defaulting to the default hyperlaunch path.

I did specify the default path in the settings ini file and it corrected this.

Otherwise no errors, says loading mame xml and everything else looks normal

1.4.15

Do you have it? Start there immediately. If that doesn't fix it then keep going. No point trying to resolve an issue that was already resolved if you are using out of date software

This is true and I had a customer who I built a machine for and the controls in joy2key wouldn't work unless he clicked the left mouse button. I wrote him an AHK file that would load at startup and click the mouse every 10 seconds for the first 10 minutes of booting.

Problem looks to be related to instant sheller..hmmm

Ok disabled most stuff like login etc and kept windows shell.

Appears to be working a treat now...

Just wanted to drop an update in here in case others are trying to do the same thing..

Don't use instant sheller to assign hyoerspin as the shell. Just disable login and log out screens and have xpadder load on windows boot. It will load minimized. Then have hyperspin in the start up and that will take care of autolaunching. Focus goes to hyperspin and it works smoother.

Also got NES, SUPERNES, GENISIS, 32X and Sega master system consoles all running with full libraries. They are also all running without any window frames but displaying in 4:3 correct ratio, centered in the portrait mode screen. Sound, display etc works perfectly and when switching back to tate mame ROMs, works fine as well.

Pretty impressed with this one... maybe an 8 button build is in my future....!
