No Leak Pinball Batteries! (Boy, I'm a sucker)

Postby Davester » Tue Nov 14, 2017 8:57 am

Being a (somewhat) responsible Williams pinball owner, I like to change the AA batteries on a (somewhat) regular basis in my Funhouse.
(I've seen lots of horror stories of leaking batteries destroying CPUs).

I was excited when I saw that Walmart had Energizer batteries with a big sign that said "No Leak Guarantee!*" (note the asterisk.)

So I paid $13 for 12 batteries, installed 3 of them and went to the website for details...

http://www.energizer.ca/batteries/energ ... 8QQAvD_BwE

What they don't openly tell you (until you go to the website) is that they are Guaranteed not to leak... for only 2 years. FML. (Oh, and you have to ship the batteries and damaged electronics back to them for evaluation... I wonder how that would work for a WMS CPU...)

Buy the Energizer Lithium AA batteries. Lithium batteries don't leak.

Or better yet, get an NVRAM and don't use batteries at all.

You could also bank the batteries safely away from the PCB with a battery holder.

The NVRAM is an excellent idea..... never worry about battery changes again..... or acid damage.
