Galaga - Arcade (factory defaults)

Postby RayB » Wed May 25, 2005 2:10 pm

Post your Galaga original arcade game scores, factory default settings for lives, difficulty and bonuses...

No fast-shot
No speed ups
No "stay in corner" cheat

Post what wave you reached in the body of the reply.

:-)

Again, not an authentic arcade pcb - but on my 48-in-1 jamma with the factory settings (no fast shot, etc), my brother in law scored 184, 380.

Didn't think to see what wave he had reached...

Galaga was never my game - I can't even reach 90k myself!

Trick

Postby jasonec » Tue Sep 17, 2013 4:54 pm

The trick for getting ridiculously high scores in Galaga is to *first* practice using the no-shoot cheat: http://jasoneckert.net/blog/Entries/2012/10/31_The_Galaga_No_Fire_Cheat_Mystery.html

Using the no-shoot cheat, take it past stage 31 (the last bonus stage with the Starship Enterprise sprites). Then play a game of regular Galaga right after and watch how good your technique is.

Then do the no-shoot cheat again and again until you can easily get past a million without trying. By that time, the patterns of the enemies are ingrained in your head, and challenge stages are a cinch to get perfect on. If you play regular Galaga for a while after that, you'll be taking it over the million point easily too. The first 31 stages are the hardest - after that, every group you destroy on a bonus stages gives 3000 points, so each bonus stage could score you 40,000+ points, which means you get free lives more often too.
