Need help on US-only item.

Postby LoganN64 » Thu Nov 07, 2019 12:57 pm

Hello all, I know Im' not the most senior member around here, but i was wondering if there is anyone here that travels to the US on a regular basis or even has family that comes up fairly often.

My request is this:

Arcade 1up has a really spiffy Limited Edition Marvel Arcade cabinet.

It is about $485 USD ($640 CAD) including shipping.

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to buy it and bring it across the border to either Niagara Falls or even better near Oakville/Mississauga.

This deal hinges on a lot of trust, the customs/border guard playing nice and possibly even timing depending on the scenario.

The reason I would prefer a US citizen to bring it up is apparently they are allowed to bring up to $800 items Duty free possibly even tax-free.

You may either private message me, or leave a message here.

Thank you all!

Probably not. It's a big ask.

Maybe offer to pay someone to do this job for you.

That's what I am proposing... the only difficult aspect is the person bringing it up having to possibly pay duties on it.

I'm not asking for a hand out or free stuff. I just need someone that is willing to take 1-2 hours out of their day to bring it to Niagara falls canada and I'll pay them for the unit and the gas and/or time.

The differences are as follow:

- Certificate of authenticity (out of 8,000 units made)
- Yellow T-molding
- Upgraded speakers
- Light-up marquee
- Sanwa Joysticks and buttons
- Different riser artwork

The odd thing is the US has another semi-limited edition Marvel cabinet with light up infinity stone buttons available from HSN.com, but still only has the "standard edition" guts, light-up marquee and another different riser. I'm very torn between the 2 versions.

I'm going to Buffalo next weekend. I'll do it for $600.

$600 CAD? If so that's actually cheaper than the cost of the unit and shipping. But also requires you to buy the unit on my behalf and wait for them to ship it to you... I doubt it will ship in 1 week.

Also are you in Buffalo New York or near that area? Because this kind of hinges on the aspect of minimizing the tax and duty fees.

Basically, you'd buy the cabinet, bring the receipt to the meeting place and you invoice me for the price of the cabinet and I'll throw in a bit of money for your time/gas.

If it boils down to me I would have to rent a US P.O. box and cross the border to pick it up, probably incurring taxes and duties left-right-and-centre.

$600 is my fee. You still need to pay for the unit.

$600 just to bring a $600 flat-pack box up to Niagara Falls? Yeah, not happening, i could get a cross-border pickup company to ship it to my house or at least bring it to their facility in Mississauga for $150... keep in mind these are not full size arcade cabinets. But thank you for the offer.

Thanks i already have looked in to this. Some of them are expensive or not capable of accepting anything over 40 pounds.

Not sure which other places you've looked up but most warehouse type services in the Falls/Buffalo region should be able to take in stuff well over 40 pounds no problem considering they take in things like tires/cars and whatnot. Haven't done pickups stateside ever since I switched to CBP out of convenience but I used to go to CBI often if you want one where you can pick it up/deal with CBSA yourself.
