WTB: CPS3 board (working or not)

Postby sp » Thu Jul 22, 2021 3:33 am

Hello, I'm wondering if anybody has any CPS3 boards for sale. Can't afford to spend much. I'd say my budget is about $500 for a working system but I'd also be interested in non-working stuff too.

Please PM me if you have anything you want to let go of. Thanks! :)

Not sure you will find someone willing to sell a $1000+ item for $500.

From the sound of it he's just looking for the motherboard? As no game or simm was mention in the post. If he is looking to do the multi with a complete setup he may have to wait awhile. Having said that I can flash the cart if you need :)

$1000 really?????? :o

Seems high. Can't say I'm up to date on prices though. The last time I had one (a Jojo board), I sold it here for $100 in 2015.

Oh yeah they have jump up in price in the last couple years. The last 4 I have sold range from 900-1200 depending on what mod I have done to it. Alot of the 90/00 stuff went up in the last 5 years

Thanks but I think I can handle that part. I've got lots of experience with SMT IC's. 8)

What was impressive was the guy in Toronto who could revive dead 3S carts back in the day. I've always wondered how he did it. Rumour was that he owned an official Capcom reprogramming machine. I met him once, but didn't think it would be polite to ask.

I guess I'll search elsewhere for a CPS3 board.

Wow, I didn't know there was a Canadian at one point that can revive dead carts. I only read store of Capcom US, and Japan and after they stop doing it some one in Asia doing Asia region only on 3rd strike.

Yeah he was only able to revive them into Asia region. I don't own the board anymore but here's an old pic of the security cart that he revived for me.

Looks like he didn't own a security writer after all. It appears that he just reprogrammed the BIOS. He tagged the TSOP with a silver marker and it looks hand soldered.

I noticed that you're from Vancouver. I lived there for a few months back in '08. I went to a live arcade auction there. It was the best auction I ever went to. I saw cabs go for as low as $5. I picked up a Marvel Vs Capcom 2 cab for $75. Did you ever happened to go to one? I wondered if there were anymore after I left. It was held by Able Auctions. 8)

Just thought I would add why I'm looking for a CPS3 board. I designed and prototyped a scsi to sd card PCB specifically for the CPS3 system but I have no idea if it works as I haven't been able to test it out yet. :|

So if you have a board that's just collecting dust and want it to go towards a good cause, please let me know! Thanks! 8)

Thanks for the tips. I've thought about those options but I wouldn't want to borrow a board and have it break then be indebted to someone. Bugging someone to test it for me doesn't sound ideal either. It's not my final design, actually it's very old, I made it 3 years ago and I plan to refine it.

It's just a personal hobby project for myself but I'd be open to making a few more for others if there was interest. 8)
